Drupalcamp

Myhost.ie are delighted to be sponsoring the next Drupal Camp which takes place on Saturday 15th May 2010 & Sunday 16th May 2010

DrupalCamp Ballyvaughan is a free weekend conference on Drupal, a hugely popular publishing system that combines website content management and social media capabilities continually developed by ever-growing open source community.

Attendees to the two-day conference can learn about features of the forthcoming release of Drupal 7 and can hear reports from developers who will have returned from the upcoming DrupalCon in San Francisco. Proposed session topics include contributed productivity modules, Drupal and the semantic web and a selection of showcases of websites built with Drupal. A popular feature of previous camps is Drupal Surgery where attendees can discuss issues with current projects.  Speaker profiles and session topics are being posted online at www.drupalwest.com. The exact timetable and schedule will be posted nearer to the conference date.

About Drupal

Founded by Belgian computer scientist Dries Buytaert, in 2001, as a social tool to keep in touch with university friends, the software and its supporting community has grown extensively over the years. Drupal is free, as is the case with other open-source blogging and content management systems such as WordPress and Joomla.

Drupal allows for extensive flexibility and scaleability in customising a content management system. All code is openly available and contributed to by Drupal developers worldwide.

Scam warning – Customers beware.

Written by Martin - Comments (0)

A German company claiming to be Internet Register Ireland has been doing the rounds again the last few weeks sending letters to some of our customers, including ourselves. The letter which is very professional looking offers the recipient an opportunity to join their database of businesses. Sounds good ?

The problem is the small print. On reading this you will see that they charge €958 per year to be listed. Our advice if you get one of these letters is to throw it in the bin .

If you have signed and sent off the letter, contact your solicitor and make sure legally they cannot pursue you for the money. A sample of the letter is shown below.

EU Company Directory – At it again

Written by Martin - Comments (0)

This is a warning to all our customers and anyone else reading this regarding the so called “EU Company Directory” .  They claim updating is “Free of charge”.  Updating your listing may well be, but to add it to their directory will cost €995 / Year and the minimum term is 3 years . Here is an excerpt from their small print;

“I WILL HAVE AN INSERTION INTO ITS DATA BASE FOR THREE YEARS. THE PRICE PER YEAR IS EURO 995. THE SUBSCRIPTION WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY EXTENDED EVERY YEAR FOR ANOTHER YEAR, UNLESS SPECIFIC WRITTEN NOTICE IS RECEIVED BY THE SERVICE PROVIDER OR THE SUBSCRIBER TWO MONTHS BEFORE THE EXPIRATION OF THE SUBSCRIPTION”

Its all worded very nicely until you get to the small print so be careful. Avoid it at all costs!  As far as I am aware , Irish Law protects you against this but if you have signed and sent in a form , I would contact a solicitor immediately.

Email filtering

Written by Martin - Comments (0)

We have been offering spam and virus filtering on our shared hosting packages  since we first went into business back in 2001. For some users this level of filtering is sufficient but for others they will need something more comprehensive. Our enterprise level spam filtering solution is ideal for individuals and business customers who would rather not spend time fine tuning their spam filter on a weekly basis.

How does it work?

Once we add your domain to our filtering servers, you simply modify your domains MX records to point to our redundant filtering servers. This can be usually done at your domain registrars control panel or with your current hosting company. Thats it ! There are no other changes to be made.

Do I need to host my domain with you to use this service?

Not at all , you just update your MX records as indicated above.

What are the advantages of using your filtering service?

Apart from our service making email a far happier experience for our customers, some more technical reasons would include

  • Over 99 % spam detection rate
  • Less than 1:1,000,000 false positive rate
  • Low per user cost
  • No hardware or software to setup
  • No administration necessary
  • URL blacklists – checking URL’s in emails against databases of known websites containing malicious applications
  • Anti-virus scanning
  • Dangerous content scanning – analysing email content for patterns of spam and phishing
  • Impliments spammer blacklists such as Spamcop.net etc
  • Daily reporting of quarantined email
  • Quarantine area for viewing email

How does it work?

Simply put, email sent to your domain , is firstly routed to our filtering servers where we filter the spam, virus and phishing emails. Clean email is then sent on to your network for delivery. An optional daily report of quarantined email is sent to you for review and access is given to a quarantine control panel to manage your account.

Do you offer a trial?

Sure, we can arrange a 30 Day FREE trial of our email filtering service. Just follow this Link

Domain Registry of America scams

Written by Martin - Comments (1)

Customers please be advised of this SCAM. An american company calling themselves the Domain Registry of America are scanning Registrars for domain renewals and contacting unsuspecting customers looking for immediate payment for domain renewals.
DO NOT PAY THIS COMPANY anything, it is a scam . They are scammers and they have been around for years ripping off people.

If you recieve a letter from these scammers , please throw it in the bin. It is the only deserving place for this type of trash.
